Home Minister makes surprise visit to police stations Pulls up cops for not maintaining cleanliness

Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy made a surprise visit to four police stations in the city on Friday evening to check the functioning of the police stations. The minister accompanied by Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar visited Cubbon Park police station first followed by Ashoknagar, Ulsoor and Indiranagar police stations. The home minister advised police inspectors to maintain cleanliness at the station premises. He was unhappy to see the files kept in a disorderly state and dust covering them at places. Complaint boxes were missing at some stations, and he asked the cops to get them installed.
He also instructed the police to step up patrolling near schools and colleges and to curb drug menace around colleges. The Minister went through the registers at all the police stations
At the Cubbon Park station, he checked how the police were monitoring the live footage of security cameras installed at 18 locations, including UB City, MG Road and Kumble Circle. The Minister directed the police officers to install more surveillance cameras at certain points inside the Cubbon Park besides increase patrolling near schools and colleges.
Then he went to Ashokanagar police station and checked the beat system. Next he visited Halasuru police station. The Home Minister noticed that the police station was not maintained clean. He took the staff to task and instructed the DCP (East) Ajay Hilori to issue notice to the inspector and the assistant commissioner of police asking reasons for the poor maintenance of the police station.
Further, he said they should keep the police station likes their own homes. The Minister also heard the grievances of police personnel, mainly of the women police personnel in particular. He warned the police inspector for having kept the complaint box inside the police station instead placing it outside the station. Later, he visited Indiranagar police station.
