A health screening camp for detection of cancer was held on the 11th April, at the HCG Centre, Koramangala for lady teachers of the Agara Government High School, Koramangala and the Mestripalya School, Koramangala.
The camps were sponsored by Flipkart, a Koramangala based an e-commerce giant with their staff donation of Rs. 40,000.00 and M/s Global Calcium Pharma with a contribution of Rs. 15,000. Facilitated by HCG Hospital, Koramangala branch, the camp was implemented by the Inner Wheel Club of Koramangala.
Fourteen teachers of the Agara School and 2 from Mestripalya School underwent the testings for blood sugar, blood pressure, pap smear, breast screening, gynacological problems and general physical check up.
The Head Mistress of the Agara School, Veena Devi who also underwent the tests said.”Women do not undergo tests because of fear”. There is a dire need for regular medical check ups to be organised for lady teachers and she appreciated the efforts of IWC Koramangala.
Shantala, a senior teacher of the school, stated that they look after thousands of students of the school and their own children and family but they neglect their own health. They never go for medical check ups on their own. She said that this camp had opened their eyes to the need for regular check ups for their own health and well being.
Amrutha of HCG supervised the health inspection efficiently. Also present on the occasion were Smt. Sandhya Iyengar, Vice President, Padmashree Balaram, Rita Chhabra and Smt. Priya Rao of the Inner Wheel Club, Koramangala who monitored the logistics of the camp.
All the teachers appreciated the initiative.
