How much a resident has to pay to get connection with the new sewage pipeline in 1st Block?
In January, on Republic Day, Transport Minister launched the works of replacing the four decade old sewage lines with new lines of bigger diametre in Koramangala 1st Block near Seema School in presence of residents and representatives of various blocks of Koramangala. Works are still going on and there are on nearing completion on 5th Main and 6th Main road. 2nd Cross has been included in the new tender where the old sewage pipline will be replaced with a bigger 12 inch pipeline.
Some residents called City Kemp to know what is the exact cost each resident has to pay to get connected their sewage pipelines with the newly laid pipelines.
There was confusion among the residents that the contractor was allegedly taking Rs 3000 to Rs 6000 from each resident to connect with the new lines. However the BWSSB has not included that costs in the tender so the contractor was not in a position to do which would incur more costs. Hence the residents had arrived at a fixed amount after holding talks.
According to Koramangala First Block Resident Welfare Association President Annie, a consensus had been arrived by the residents and the BWSSB contractor so that each resident will have to pay Rs 500 and material charges if required if their sewage line is nearer to the newly laid pipeline.
If their sewage pipeline is on the opposite side then the resident will have to pay Rs 1000 since the workmen will have to dig upto 6 feet besides the material charges. In most of the cases, the residents’ pipelines are badly damaged/broken due to tree roots and decades old. Hence in those cases it would cost more.
