The High Court of Karnataka has directed constitution of a committee to suggest solutions to a number of issues relating to Bellandur and Agara lakes.
At the hearing held on 13th April, the division bench consisting of Chief Justice, Justice Waghela and Justice Rammohan Reddy directed that the Lake Development Authority would chair the committee. Other members would be representing other Government bodies like the BWSSB, KIADB, BDA and the BBMP.
The two builders will also be represented on the committee. Citizen bodies who are petitioners will also have one representation on the committee.
LDA has been directed to take into account the fact that the development is in a catchment area and the area is a sensitive zone. The court directed the committee to take a call on the steps required to restore Agara and Bellandur lakes to their original area, clear encroachments, ensure stoppage of flow of sewage into the lakes, and provide water channels for drainage from Agara to flow into Bellandur lake. Court hearing has been adjourned to 10th June and the committee is expected to have some interim observations to present to the court by that date.
