City Kemp News Opposition is building to the notification of the Excise Department, Government of Karnataka, extending business hours for bars and pubs in the city upto 1 am. Residents Welfare Associations across the city are planning to meet shortly to discuss the next steps forward. Many are upset and dismayed at zoning of the establishments not being considered while making the new notification. For instance, many such establishments are in purely commercial areas where there will not be much of an impact on residents. However in Koramangala, there are a number of bars and pubs in the midst of residential areas and allowing them to stay open upto 1 am will be a further blow to residents already struggling with the impact of commercialization in the area. Some Associations have suggested that the extension of timings be made applicable first to bars and pubs in the Central Business District (CBD) before attempting to extend these hours to pubs in residential zones.
