In a further hearing on an appeal filed by Mantri Techzone P Ltd in the Supreme Court against the orders of the National Green Tribunal, the Supreme Court has denied a motion by Mantri Techzone to stay the portion of the order of the NGT that ordered suspension of construction activity on the site.
In an order passed on 12th July 2016, the division bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Justice TS Thakur permitted the petitioner, Mantri Techzone P Ltd to file additional objections to the NGT order within a period of 4 weeks following which an additional 2 weeks will be given to the respondents, Forward Foundation, Praja Raag and Bangalore Environmental Trust, to file counter-objections.
For the petitioners, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave appeared and made arguments. For the respondents, Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Senior Advocate, advanced arguments.
The arguments are likely to come up for further hearing during the first week of September. In the meanwhile, the petitioners will not be able to carry on construction activity at the site.
Readers may recall that City Kemp had prominently covered both the NGT verdict and the citizens efforts leading up to the court case.
