Garbage, dumped at the roadside in front of National Games Village gate on the 80 feet Road, probably the waste collected from the households, continues to wreck havoc for commuters as well as residents. Besides this, the residents living in nearby slums too throw there accumulating it. Also the stretch along the side till the Regional Passport Office has a different story.
Instead of carving out separate areas to shift the garbage, the garbage collectors have doubled up the roadside places to keep the waste until it is shifted.
“Though the roads and footpaths are actually built for the motorists and pedestrians yet here in Koramangala, a portion of it is used to dump/shift garbage,” said Bhatia LK, a resident of NGV.
Koramangala is one of the good localities of Bengaluru. Despite that, the residents are distressed to see the callousness by the local authorities towards endless complaints from residents about garbage. What calamity will it take for the BBMP to wake up to the state affairs and to get their act together?
As concerned citizens who want to make a difference to the surroundings, have brought this matter to the attention of the media. It may be recalled that on December 6, 2015, a resident of NGV had posted a complaint on IChangeMyCity.org about the state of affairs vis-à-vis garbage in Koramangala outside NGV complex. After 4 months on the job, nothing has been achieved, except a reduction in the amount of garbage around the passport office corner
The complete apathy on the part of BBMP and lack of action even after four months of posting a complaint with pictures has made this course necessary.
This total apathy, in the face of a tax for the Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan in addition to the regular taxes to be paid to BBMP for garbage removal is absolutely galling. This is the ultimate insult to injury. Is this the kind of service that we need to pay more tax towards?
This is just one part of the road outside the NGV complex, between the National Public School Gate and the Passport Office in Koramangala. You can well imagine what the state of affairs all over the city (except the show-cased, high profile areas) is. The garbage being just outside the premises of a school should be an additional wake up call.
This spot falls under the Neelasandra Ward. NGV comes under Ejipura Ward and again till the SWD on one side opposite Regional Passport Office it comes under Adugodi Ward. The area under Adugodi ward was similar condition till now, but under the initiative of the Corporator Manjula Sampath it is being monitored and maintained clean. However on the area falling with Ejipura Ward still needs to be attended.
Just try to walk on the footpath between NGV gate (from National Public School to Regional Passport Office and back), you will notice what the exact situation is.
We have seen the disaster of the Surat plague. Recently we witnessed what happened in Chennai – leave aside the fact that it is a natural disaster, human callousness has contributed in no mean degree to what has happened. I don’t think the day is far off when we in Bengaluru will witness some such calamity, with monsoon not too far off.
