Prevention is BESCOM’s new mantra

Consumers are expected to see quality power supply with minimum power outages in the next three months time as the BESCOM has entrusted to a private agency to take up preventive maintenance works. In Koramangala, already the team is on with tree trimming works. Damaged poles will be replaced, loose wires will be tightened, slant poles will be straightened, transformer area will cleaned up. The BESCOM has learnt lessons from the recent rains and hence this preventive measures.
BESCOM Director Technical Nagesh accompanied by BESCOM Superintending Engineer Vishwanath Naik, Executive Engineer Shantha Mallappa ST,  Assistant Executive Engineer Koramangala Sub Division Manoj Kumar and others carried out inspection in Koramangala 4th Blockon Thursday.
BESCOM has outsourced external agencies for preventive maintenance works to upkeep electrical distribution network and supply quality power to consumers with minimum outages. In the South Circle, Koramangala (S3, S4 and S7 jurisdiction) and Jayanagar Divisions have been outsourced. All blocks of Koramangala, Madiwala, Adugodi, Austin Town, Murugeshpalya, Ring Road etc fall under this division. This action comes due to deficit of manpower with the BESCOM. However, all works will be carried out under the supervision of BESCOM officials. On Monday, it was launched officially after the pooja to the gadgets and hitech machines was done at NGV premises in the presence of BESCOM Superintending Engineer Vishwanath Naik, Executive Engineer Shantha Mallappa ST,  Assistant Executive Engineer Koramangala Sub Division Manoj Kumar and others.
The recent rains damaged BESCOM property and put it at a great loss, besides the consumers were into great hardship. So the BESCOM Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Pandey has taken stringent steps to increase revenue as well as to ensure quality power is supplied to the consumers with minimum outages.
In Koramangala alone, over 60 electricity poles were damaged due to rains in the month of May. The outsourced agency Srishaila Electricals would be using hitech machines like Bucket Van, Ladder Van, Cranes etc to execute the works.
The agency will take up all types of preventive maintenance works to upkeep electrical distribution network. Firstly they will take up tree trimming works. Replacement of damaged/ deteriorated poles. Also they would be restringing of loose spans besides replacement of broken/damaged insulators, jumps etc.
Even the roadside transformers would be maintained such as cleaning of weeds, painting of fence, oil changing oil level, temperature and so on. Not only that servicing of group operating switches, 11 KV bus bar strengthening, renewal of earthing, refurbishment of  RMUs ( Ring Main Units), straightening of slant poles and allied works would be done.
This project objective is to reduce to minimum power outages and the target is set for three months is to achieve at least 50 per cent. Working day and night, the BESCOM is striving hard to provide quality power supply to the consumers.
