Did you ever ask yourself how you could help hunger? Well, obviously one person alone cannot feed all hungry stomachs on earth. But when you get together, you can do something. And yes, even a small contribution, even just feeding one hungry child a day, can make a difference.
Like this, every Sunday meals are being sponsored by L Nagaraj, former President of Koramangala 8th Block Welfare Association through the Association to mentally challenged persons living at Asha Niketan in Koramangala 6th Block, for the past three years. And this year too he has sponsored it. Besides this, medicines worth Rs 2 lakh has been sponsored by the residents -K K Prakash, H Srinivas Reddy of Ashrit Group and S Madhusudhan Reddy of MSR Dwellings Private Limited.
Those living there are mentally challenged and over 50 in numbers. The programme is called as ‘Akshaya Spandana’. Three years ago, it was inaugurated by Asha Niketan Chairman Shivashankar along with one of the first inmates and then RWA President L Nagaraj.
This Saturday (April 16) the amount was handed over by L Nagaraj to the Chairman Shivashankar and others, in the presence of the present President Rathnamma, Secretary Babu Reddy, Gurudas and all committee members.
Shivashankar thanked Nagaraj and also appreciated him for getting more sponsors this year.
Speaking on the occasion, L Nagaraj, ex-President of Koramangala 8th Block Welfare Association said that we are trying to make a difference in the lives of these persons of this organisation.
“Sometime back S Gurudas of Koramangala Initiative who is with Asha Nikethan asked us to look out for sponsors, but I thought why not we sponsor a day’s meal. So I decided to provide a day’s meals for one year”, Nagaraj said. Later at a meeting we also decided to name it as ‘Akshaya Spandana’, he said. And this is being continued, he added.
