“Let there be a single window clearance for public utilities like skywalks, toilets etc to be built by BBMP so that there are no hurdles and complete the work in stipulated time”, said Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and directed the BBMP Commissioner in this regard. The Minister was speaking at the opening of the newly built skywalk on Hosur Road on Monday. This suggestion was made by the Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy during his speech to the Bengaluru Development Minister K J George.
Bengaluru’s first skywalk with escalators has been opened on Hosur road in front of Forum Mall and Bosch. Mayor B N Manjunatha Reddy inaugurated the skywalk along with Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers, Ananth Kumar.
The skywalk has CCTV surveillance and lighting, and will be open from 7 am to 10 pm on all days. The skywalks have been built on Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Transfer (DBFOT) basis in Public Private Partnership (PPP) by Prakash Arts Private Limited at a cost of Rs 3 crore. The lease duration is 20 years.
Comparing the present skywalk to the City’s first skywalk built on K G Road, Union Minister Ananth Kumar recalled how the KG Road skywalk was not used by the people instead was used by anti-social elements and thugs as it was like a den for them.
