In an application filed by residents of Koramangala, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a Status Quo order preventing further construction on the Civic Amenity Site adjoining the playground in Koramangala 3rd Block.
The site had been allotted for construction of a Kannada medium school by M/s Ananda Social and Educational Trust. Residents of the area and cricket & football enthusiasts had been vociferously opposing construction at that location since the integrity of the neighbouring playground would be compromised.
In response to the petition filed, the National Green Tribunal has stayed further work and issued a Status Quo order. The KSPCB has been asked to file a compliance report to the NGT. The next hearing is posted for 5th April.
On Saturday 2nd April, a team from Ananda Trust attempted to start work at the site in violation of NGT orders.
A team of residents swung into action and with the aid of BDA Assistant Executive Engineer Suresh, BBMP Assistant Executive Engineer Yogesh and the local Koramangala Police succeeded in foiling the attempt.
Residents are planning to file a contempt application before the NGT detailing the incident.
