ST Bed 5th Main, 6th cross, 5th cross and 1st mainroadside drains are filled with sewage flowing from the roadside drain. Since the drains are covered with stone slabs it was difficult to find out the stagnant sewage. Residents complained after it started stinking badly.
Neither the residents nor the Residents Welfare Association could not locate the spot from where the sewage was flowing and it was assumed that the pipe connecting to Under Ground Drain from some houses could have been broken.
Then RWA was approached by Janardhan Reddy, Prakash and Mathew, residing on 5thcross as the stink was becoming unbearable.
RWA President Rajendra Babu along with residents approached Minister Ramalinga Reddy to help them solve the problem as residents feared that it could cause major health hazard in the neighbourhood. Minister Ramalinga Reddy immediately informed BBMP and BWSSB officials to take action immediately.
BBMP and BWSSB officials started the work immediately by desilting the drains.
Since the residents had a similar problem a year ago and getting the drain desilted at regular basis was a very expensive and difficult process, Secretary Mohan Raju along with Vice President Ananthram started checking the roadside drains in the presence of Corporator Ramachandra, after checking several areas removing the slabs on the roadside drain finally they were able to locate the spot in front of an apartment beside Ganesha Temple where the pipe linking sewage line to UGD was broken and sewage was flowing out of it at a great force.
Sewage flowed into ST Bed Layout from the broken pipe which had a crack exactly in the middle of the pipe inside the drain as the pressure from the UGD lines is very high and the sewage water was flowing backwards into the pipe. 5th main roadside drain which is barely 20ft away and the gradient is towards the 5th main roadside drain and which also links 6th cross drain, 5th cross as well as 1st main drain – all these roadside drains were filled with sewage. Desilting work is still in progess.
The RWA has thanked Minister Ramalinga Reddy as well as BBMP and BWSSB officials for taking immediate action.
ST Bed residents thank Minister Ramalinga Reddy
