The Managing Director of Mantri Techzone P Ltd, Sushil Mantri, was summoned by the National Green Tribunal to answer to Contempt of Court charges arising from the complaint of intimidation, obstruction and snatching of equipment, filed by an NGT Committee member against Mantri Techzone.
The complainant had stated that an employee of Mantri Techzone had snatched a GPS Tracker from a team member and abused him during the team visit to the site on Sept 11.
The NGT principal bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar summoned Sushil Mantri to appear personally before the bench, considering the seriousness of the matter.
When the matter was called out, the advocate of Mantri Techzone, R Venkatramani, submitted that the submissions made in the contempt application are based on media reports and further submitted that on September 11, 2015, when the Committee members visited the site, the security guard had not allowed the GPS device to be taken inside the site due to security reasons without knowing the person and importance/use of the device.
He said that the security guard was admonished for his act, who in turn apologized by falling to feet of the NGT Team member and the said GPS device was then immediately returned.
Mantri Techzone and Sushil Mantri tendered an unconditional apology before the court for the incident following which the court agreed to drop the matter.
The hearing on the substantive matters relating to the case are posted to November 4 for further hearings.
It will be recalled that the NGT had admonished the High Level committee appointed by it to look into matters related to the large mixed use development projects coming up in the Bellandur catchment area, Two builders have been named in the petition – Mantri Techzone P ltd and Coremind Software and Services P Ltd, a unit of Salarpuria group.
Two expert members of the NGT were deputed to the site to study the situation and a site report on the same has been prepared and submitted to the NGT.
