On the 31st of January Indian Heritage Academy hall was abuzz with activity and excitement as Samskruthi Ladies Association was celebrating its 15th annual day. Padmavathi Rao, a leading theater person and a film actor was the chief guest.
The programme started with a prayer by Anjali, Latha and Supriya followed by President Kalpana Chandrakumar’s welcome address. While talking about the 15 years of association Kalpana described how Samskruthi has now become a way of life for all those associated with it.
Secretary Gayathri Madan did her annual report in a power point presentation which showcased the current year’s activities as well as that of the past 14 years. The colourful presentation took the members on a nostalgic trip. The chief guest was introduced by the joint secretary Malini Khandige.
All the prize winners of the various competitions held at Samskruthi Ladies Association were given trophies by the chief guest. The highlight of the trophies was one given to member Swarnalatha who was chosen as this year’s Srimathi Samskruthi after four rounds of intense competition.
Two gentlemen who have been closely associated with the association were felicitated, Jagadeesh who has been the printer for the association from its inception and Narasimha Murthy who has arranged the flawless and safe annual picnics for the association members.
The founders of Samskruthi, Vasumathi Srinath, Radha Santhakumar and Shubha Salian together gave cash prize to two SSLC toppers of Fransescan School, Tavarekere. In its bid to do service to the society the Association always takes up one special project for the annual day. This year the association bought things worth Rs10,500 for Seva in Action for their new project Rachana. The cheque was handed over to Sowmya Thontesh, project head by the President.
Chief guest in her address commended the association for being different from the usual ladies associations and also for doing service to the society and wished the assn will reach greater heights in future. Joint Treasurer, Antoinette Vincent gave the vote of thanks.
This was followed by a colourful cultural programme by the members. There was a variety of programme from rendering of a classical song to a humorous Kannada play, from a fast dance set to Breathless to a hilarious adaptation of Gangnam style dance, from a synchronised Kolata to the majestic depiction of Karnataka Vaibhava.
The programme was ably compered by committee member Sudha Rao.
