BMTC bags National Award

Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Minister (Road Transport and Highways), Govt. of India presenting the “Transport Minister’s Trophy and Rs 1.5 lakh Cash Award for STU’ award to Dr Ekroop Caur, Managing Director, BMTC.

BMTC, the award winning Urban Road Transport Corporation in the country, has continued its winning streak by receiving the ‘Transport Minister’s Trophy and Cash Award for STU’ for Lowest Accident Record (Road safety Awards) for 2013-14 from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.
The award was conferred to BMTC during the conference of “Status of Road Safety and safe mobility initiatives in India” (26th National Road Safety Week Conference) held at India International Center, New Delhi.
BMTC has setup an exclusive Drivers Training Centre at Vaddarahalli, Bengaluru, to impart training to drivers to adopt best driving skills. Corporation has also installed simulation at the training institute to impart the training on a real road condition to drivers, besides carrying out the joint operation with the traffic police to monitor traffic congestion in junction points and major circles and working out to curb rash and negligent and drunken driving. The drivers, conductors and mechanical staff are shown with documentary films depicting the best driving practice, effect of bad driving etc at Training Centre of BMTC.
The rigorous pre-induction training programmes are also organized for the newly recruited drivers before they are actually put on route operation. The accident rate was 0.10 (for 1 lakh km) during the year 2011-12 and it is reduced to 0.07 in 2013-14, similarly the breakdowns reported during 2012-13 is 0.08 (for ten thousand km) and it is 0.07 in 2013-14.
