The health care units are not disposing Bio-medical Waste in a proper manner. Hence, Lakshman, Chairman of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has directed to all the health care units to segregate Bio-medical Waste in a proper way and to handover the same to the common Bio-medical Waste disposing units.
There are 25 common Bio-medical Waste disposing units in the state and the management heads of 18 such common Bio-medical Waste disposing units were present in the meeting held by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board on 26-12-2017 and 28-12-2017.
In spite of the agreement made between the health care units and the common Bio-medical Waste disposing units regarding disposing of Bio-medical Waste and despite having orders by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board on the same, few health care units are not handing over Bio-medical Waste to the common disposing units.
The management heads of common Bio-medical Waste disposing units complained that about 20% of the plastic waste so obtained are also not being handed over to the disposing units.
In response to this, Lakshman, Chairman of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board directed the health care units to properly segregate the Bio-medical Waste and to handover to the common disposing units without fail.
Further, the Chairman, KSPCB also directed the common Bio-medical Waste disposing units to take appropriate steps in disposing such waste and to use non chlorinated plastic bags for the same.
The Chairman, KSPCB instructed to install online continuous monitoring equipment in all common Bio-medical Waste disposing units within 30 days and to follow the below directions:
* Online continuous monitoring equipment should be calibrated regularly and
* Online continuous monitoring equipment should be connected to CPCB server. Along with these, it is also instructed to incorporate the parameters in online continuous monitoring: Primary Chamber Temperature, Secondary Chamber Temperature, Carbon Di-Oxide, Carbon Monoxide, Particulate Matter, Oxygen level, and Bar coding system
Board officials and officials of Central Pollution Control Board were also present in the meeting.
