B.PAC in association with Shell MRPL Aviation Fuels & Services Ltd launched the Master Green Ambassador Programme on August 19 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Racecourse road Bengaluru. Mr. N.S Ramakanth, Expert Solid waste management, Dr. Sandhya, MOH BBMP; Ms. Revathy Ashok, CEO & Managing Trustee, B.PAC; Konduri Lakshminarayana, CEO, Shell MRPL Aviation Fuels & Services and others were present during the ceremony.
Bengaluru’s city generates around 4500 ton of waste per day. The central government, state government and BBMP, the local governing body have released a number of rules and regulations to manage waste responsibly. However, visual cleanliness is yet a big challenge and the awareness on segregation and ban of plastic is yet to reach citizens effectively.
The problem of waste management, water conservation and other environmental issues root from lack of awareness among citizens, weak collaborative efforts of stakeholders and non-compliance of rules and regulations. To address this, B.PAC has conceptualized ‘Green Ambassador Program’ for college students and has partnered with Shell MRPL Aviation Fuels & Services Ltd. In the last two years, B.PAC has worked with over 15 colleges and created over 1000 Green Ambassadors across Bengaluru city.
Green Ambassador Program (GAP) is designed to sensitize young students on issues related to environment and water. It proposes to impart information, knowledge and know how towards participating in problem-solving of issues such as garbage and water in our City. B.PAC has now taken this mission to schools across Bengaluru city through “Junior Green Ambassador Program”. B.PAC has collaborated with colleges to select students and train them to be Master Green Ambassadors to conduct awareness programs in schools and help implement micro environment related programs in schools. Each Master Green Ambassador shall take up one or two schools and make the school campus a source of zero waste.
B.PAC trained 60 students during the Master Trainer Program and shall work with hundred schools across Bengaluru in collaboration with BBMP and elected representatives to make the campus a model Green School.
During the launch Ms. Revathy Ashok said “Students shall be working with schools to make the model school which is a source of zero waste and in turn inspire more number of people from the immediate neighbourhood to inculcate better waste management practices”
N.S Ramakanth, Expert, Solid waste management applauded the efforts and students and asked them to spread the message on use of clay Ganesha during festival.
