Residents get tips to set up terrace garden

Koramangala 6th Block Residents’ Welfare Association in association with Government of Karnataka, Department of Horticulture had organised a Kitchen and Terrace Gardening workshop on 22nd October 2016 which had been received very well by over 200 residents in the area.
Most of the participants had started their own terrace garden using the starter kit supplied by the Department of Horticulture.
An informal group of such gardening enthusiasts was also formed.  Based on the activity and enthusiasm, the RWA conducted a follow up workshop with the Department of Horticulture to further hone skills and gain additional information.    Mrs Archana Murthy and Mr Sreenivas V T  both Management Committee members of the RWA welcomed the gathering and Mr Chunchaiah, Senior Asst Director, Raj Bhavan, Horticulture Department, GOK  conducted the workshop.  He explained in detail how to set up a terrace garden with a model layout and how to sow seeds, transfer the saplings, and even explained how to water and tend them.  The hour long presentation was followed by an interactive question and answer session.  This was followed by a thanksgiving session and ended with a memento being presented by Mr Bindu Rao, Treasurer.  To all the participants, the RWA also offered 25Kg packs of naturally enriched ready-mix soil at nominal prices to spur their gardening interests.  The programme was again very well received and the gathering broke up with the proposal to consider more frequent meetings for exchanging experiences, skills and knowledge on a more frequent basis. Earlier RWA President Jayaramu address the gathering. RWA 6th block Sectretary Suresh N Gowda and MC member  Sreenivasa V T  played a major role in sourcing and distributing the kits and organising this entire event.
