Rainwater mixed with sewage floods houses; Residents flay delay in SWD remodelling work

The water logging of rainwater mixed with sewage on 5th Cross, 4th Cross and other adjoining roads of 4th Block in Koramangala, due to overflowing of main Storm Water Drain (Raja Kaluve) from Viveknagar to Bellandur tank, has been a regular feature.
In fact, on November 2, overflowing of rainwater mixed with sewage and filth has caused a havoc and there was nearly 2 to 3 feet of dirty water flooded on these roads. Besides this, the sewage water entered almost all the houses and water sumps on 5th and 4th Cross roads.  Koramangala is said to be a posh locality and has now virtually converted this particular area like a slum.
This fact was repeatedly brought to the notice of BBMP and other concerned departments, including the Ministers by Koramangala 4th Block Residents’ Welfare Association vide letters dated 12-11-2010, 2-5-2011, 8-6-2013, 6-7-2014, 27-9-2014, 13-10-2014, 2-2-2015, and ultimately a sum of about Rs. 39 crores has been allocated and the commencement of work -‘Guddali Pooja’ was also held about a month back to carry out the work of construction of SWD retaining walls, but the concerned department has not started the work for the reasons best known to them. It is not known why the work is still being delayed.
The 4th Block RWA is of the opinion that the proposed construction of RCC retaining wall of SWD and removal of the silt will not solve the present problem faced by the residents. The only solution is that a separate parallel drainage/tunnel is to be constructed in addition to the main drain, from Viveknagar to Bellandur tank, preferably on 80 feet road, which perhaps may give a permanent solution to the residents and also clear the excess rain water flowing from city through Double Road.
“Hope that the BBMP and the concerned Chief Engineer, Storm Water Drain, Koramangala Valley Project, now at least take note of the above suggestion and expedite the project immediately so that the residents will have a sigh of relief”, say the 4th Block RWA President G M Shetty and Executive Members of the RWA.
