On 13th Oct 2015, a 18 month old child fell from the second floor of their house. The child was bleeding heavily, an ambulance took her from St. Martha’s Hospital on Nrupatunga Road to NIMHANS on Hosur Road. Since there was no ventilator free at both the hospitals, she was finally taken to Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health where she lost her life in the evening. The parents alleged that IGICH delayed in giving her the required treatment.
With this regards, Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights had quickly reacted to the issue and has registered a Suo moto case. Summons was issued to the director of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health Hospital and to the parents of the child.
On October 21, in the honorable chairperson of KSCPCR Dr.Kripa Kumar Alva conducted an enquiry with both the director of the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health Hospital & the child’s parents.
The parents of the child alleged that the death of their kid was due to the negligence of the doctor at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health Hospital at the same time one of the lady doctors misbehaved with the parents and the director of the hospital defends the allegations.
During the course of enquiry it was found that the doctors at IGICH have attended the child on time. But as alleged, one of the female doctors had misbehaved with the parents.
The honorable chairperson of KSCPCR Dr.Kripa Kumar Alva has decided issue a warning order to the management of the hospital saying if the doctor repeats the same behavior and if it comes to the notice of the KSCPCR then the doctor will be asked for the suspension. At the same time the summons will be issued to the NIMHANS very soon for making the parents wait before referring them to Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health Hospital.
