Govt bans plastic bags

no-plastic-bagsThe State Cabinet has decided to ban use and sale of plastic bags below 40 microns in thickness.
Also the State Cabinet has decided to ban manufacture, sale and use of plastic items. Materials like carry bags, banners, buntings, flags and flexes, & those used in functions, like plates, thermocol cups & sheets used on dining tables, are included in the ban.
The ban will be under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act. An exemption has been granted for manufacturing plastic materials for export. Industries manufacturing plastic bags of less than 40 microns in thickness will be told to stop making such bags and to switch over to thicker bags.  An official order will be issued soon in this regard.
