State Government wants to develop Karnataka as an all-season tourism destination and has invited investments worth Rs. 1,800 crore for Tourism infrastructure development all across Karnataka.
At the ongoing Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart 2015, 30 MoU’s were signed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Tourism Minister R V Deshpande said the PPP model is the best way to develop tourism. “Investors put their money in developing the state as a top tourism destination in the country and in return, the government extends all possible assistance to the investors and guarantees high-level transparency in clearing tourism investment.”
The State government has identified 18 unique products that will help the state evolve as a hot tourism destination.
Details of MoU’s:
l Rs. 1000 crores for making Jog waterfalls world class.
l Eco-tourism initiative in Madikeri at Rs. 50 crore
l Entertainment firm Innovative Studios and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation signed a deal to set up an entertainment complex at the metro station on Mysuru Road
l Three theme parks in Bengaluru on the lines of Disneyland, while another will be based on Lego.
l The department has also invited investments worth Rs80 crore in building cable car at four locations in the State – Chamundi Hills in Mysuru, Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur, Kemmannungundi in Chikkamagalur and Madhugiri fort in Tumkur district
l Cruise tourism with a budget of Rs120 crore. Ports to be utilised are Karwar, Belekeri, Tadri, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Kundapur, Hangarkatta, Malpe Padubidri, Old and New Mangalore.
l Development of tourism-related infrastructure at Manapalla Lake in Udupi at the cost of Rs14 crore and near Malaprabha dam in Belagavi at Rs13 crore are also on the cards. Another proposal is for Alamatti dam in Bagalkot at Rs120 crore.
l Development of theme park and related activities near Bhadra Dam in Chickmagalur with a budget of Rs86 crore and creating tourism-related infrastructure at Hidkal dam in Belagavi are also proposed.
