The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) would be building 25 skywalks on Outer Ring Road. Already in two places it has given green signal for the construction of skywalks on an experimental basis and the work is in progress. They are near Hennur junction – One at Kammanahalli and other at Babusabpalya. Very soon similar skywalks work will be taken up at Central Silk Board and seven other places on this stretch up to K R Puram bridge. Tenders have been floated for this. Successful bidder who fulfills all the conditions of the BDA will be given the work order. As many as 10 skywalks would be built between Central Silk Board and K R Puram.
Pedestrians were facing hardship to cross at the major junctions on ORR stretch between K R Puram and Central Silk Board junction. “These skywalks would be ready to use by the end of the financial (2015-16) year,” say officials.
Normally pedestrians used to be caught in a peculiar situation in the middle of the road, neither being able to proceed further nor turn back due to continuous flow of traffic. Also the moving traffic would be in top speed putting the life of pedestrians at risk “It would take at least seven to eight months to build a skywalk once the work is begun. After completion these skywalks will help people cross the roads without affecting traffic flow,” say officials.
