Stem Cell Awareness Day

city kempAs Nazeer Ahmed, the Deputy Drug Controller of Karnataka inaugurated Stem Cell Awareness Day, Stempeutics marked the First Stem Cell Awareness Day in India on April 10th at Taj Gateway. The event was organized by Stempeutics (A Manipal Education and Medical Group Enterprise) to create awareness about stem cells, the application in treatment and also to remove many misconceptions about stem cells prevalent among public.
The public event  targeted, people from all walks of life including students from both colleges and schools to educate the growing citizens about the importance of stem cells. Numerous colleges around the city attended the event graced by eminent personalities of the medical industry. The presence of The Chief guests, Dr. Sudarshan Ballal, Medical Director – Manipal Health Enterprise, Dr. Ajith Kumar S, CSO of LifeCell, Prof. Polani B. Seshagiri from Indian Institute of Science,  Nazeer Ahmed, Deputy Drug Controller of Karnataka and  Manohar MD & CEO of Stempeutics Research (Moderator) graced the occasion.
Prof. Polani B. Seshagiri from Indian Institute of Science said, “Stem cell offers number of advantages in terms of curing human disorders and diseases which otherwise aren’t curable by conventional medical approaches. Stem cell offers enormous potential. In this it is extremely important that there is well informed, public, patients and doctors, and Stem cell awareness day is step in this regard. Govt of Inida is very proactive in terms of supporting stem cell research both in the basic and clinical research. For this national guidelines of ICMR and DBT are available and are in the public domain”.
On the occasion, Dr. Sudarshan Ballal, Medical Director – Manipal Health Enterprise saod, “It is indeed a great occasion today to create awareness about stem cells which have a huge potential to revolutionise medical care in the future. Today’s program is meant to educate the general public about the physiology, potential for use, also the prevention of abuse of stem cell therapy, by distinguished experts in the field”.
Manohar said, “The day is a unique global opportunity to foster greater understanding about stem cell research and the range of potential applications for disease and injury. For the millions of people around the world who suffer from incurable diseases due to aging and injury, Stem Cell Awareness Day is a day to celebrate the scientific advances made to-date and be hopeful of what is yet to come”
