B-PAC clean up drive turns a flop as residents hold ‘silent’ protest

city kempResidents of Koramangala especially from the 3rd Block and the neighbourhood had arrived in front of the Koramangala Club on Sunday morning around 8 not for a walk or to witness the sports event going on there or to particpate in the Rotary-B-PAC’s clean up drive.
It was to send the right message to the Bangalore Political Action Committee (B-PAC) team heads that let it ‘Swachch B-PAC first’. The residents were on a silent protest as some of the B-PAC members were supporting an ‘illegal’ eatery that had come up in 3rd Block. Holding placards mentioning “B-PAC clean thyself stop Breakfast Club”, “B-PAC members office-bearers practise what you preach”, “B-PAC member supports illegal activity” and so on, the residents distributed leaflets to the passers-by about the illegal activity supported by B-PAC.
Incidentally, the black spot beside the Koramangala Club which was ‘designated’ for the clean up drive had been cleaned by the pourakarmikas one day before itself. On that morning, the spot looked very neat and clean. Hence the clean up drive didn’t take place at all.
Nearly after one hour, the chief guest international athlete Ashwini Nachappa who was also there to give away the prizes to the winners of the sports event conducted by Koramangala Club, came outside only to be greeted by the ‘protesting’ residents. The residents briefed about the issue that was going on and how they were facing the problems. She assured to speak to the B-PAC heads about the issue. Later on Rotary-B-PAC members distributed dust pans, brooms, gloves and other implements to the pourakarmikas.

How can we live without getting any salary, they complained. We are the ones who do the cleaning job everyday, not those who come for ‘show’ and just take photographs and go, they said.
