The State cabinet, on 17th March approved a long-pending elevated corridor project between Ejipura junction and Kendriya Sadan junction in Koramangala at a cost estimated at Rs. 204 Crores.
The 2.4-km elevated corridor will pass through the congested Sony World junction, Canara Bank junction, BDA Complex intersection and Water Tank junction. It is expected to ease traffic flow for traffic travelling through Inner Ring Road to Silk Board, Electronic City, Jayanagar and other areas. The commute on this 2.4 km stretch now takes more than half an hour during peak hour traffic.
The 4-lane bi-directional flyover will have an exit ramp on the left towards Krupanidhi College for traffic heading to Sarjapura Road and an entry ramp on the right for traffic from St. John’s heading to Domlur.
The project was first proposed to be taken up under the JNNURM scheme in 2014 at an estimated cost of Rs168 crore. However, the project had a setback when the JNNURM scheme was scrapped by the NDA Government in 2014. .
The State Government revived the project in its 2015-16 budget and tenders were called.
Residents of Koramangala met the Chief Engineer, Road Infrastructure of the BBMP, Mr KT Nagaraj to get a few clarifications on the project. Mr Nagaraj assured them that adequate free left space will be provided to facilitate entry into Hosur Road at the Ayappa Temple junction. He also assured that tree loss will be minimized. Only pruning will be resorted to and by and large even the trees lost at the ramps could be transplanted using resources from the Wood Institute.
The contractor, M/s Simplex Constructions is expected to commence work on the project by end April.
