The State government is keen to develop dam sites in Karnataka into hot tourist destinations and plans to attract mega investments for the project, envisaged to be executed under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
“The Invest Karnataka meet provides an ideal opportunity to showcase the project and woo investments for developing dam tourism with different themes near the dams. It has huge potential as we are seeing it at KRS Bridavan Gardens. Every dam has similar potential and we want to tap it fully mentioned by the minister.
The facilities like Go-karting for children with battery operated vehicles, a Bonsai garden, a hall of fame, a museum at Bridavan Gardens adjacent to KRS dam, water sports, rain dance, amusements at Gorur Dam and such other plans are set to be unveiled at the ‘Invest Karnataka’ Global Investors’ Meet (GIM) to be held in Bengaluru from February 3 to 5.
Under the project, Kabini Dam in HD Kote will have a eco-tourism theme park spread over 157 acres. The proposal also includes a botanical garden, musical fountain, an Ayurvedic spa, boating and other facilities, said sources in Cauvery Neeravari Nigama Limited (CNNL), which has prepared the plan.
A massive upgradation plan for Brindavan Gardens at KRS is expected to draw the attention of investors as it is already a favourite tourist attraction in the country. The draft plan includes developing a Bonsai garden, children’s park with battery-operated vehicles for go-karting, a Hall of Fame or Museum and facilities for multimedia projection shows.
The Hemavathi Dam at Gorur in Hassan district has been selected for development as a leisure tourism hotspot with an amusement park for kids, a huge water sports facility with water scooters, boating, rain dance and much more. The Water Resources Department has similar plans for dams in the Krishna basin in northern Karnataka.
