“The Entrepreneurship Programme”- a challenging enterprise initiated by National Public school, Koramangala three years ago once again proved to be a valuable and enriching learning experience for all involved in it- the students, the teachers and the parents of Grade 6.
It was a meticulously planned out process, right from its inception in October to its culmination on “Market Day’ on the 24th of January 2015.
The products on sale were hand- made in school by the young entrepreneurs, under the supervision of their teachers, to suit customer demand. These included colorful ‘torans’, lamp shades, Rangoli designs, sling bags, handmade jewelry, wind chimes, memo pads etc.
Food stalls selling sweet and savoury goodies such as nachos, cookies, brownies and ‘chat’ items as well as lemonade and iced tea sold like hot cakes! It was heartening to see the children setting up their stalls, displaying their wares and gearing themselves up as sales and marketing executives. Anxious and apprehensive yet excited and exhilarated at the same time, they were ready at their stalls well before 8 am The first customers started trickling in after 9 am and within a record time all the products were sold out.
The animated ambience in the school grounds with parents, students and invitees shopping at the beautifully decorated kiosks put up by the grade six students added a new dimension to the whole experience.
The profit this year is more than twice the profit earned last year and the entire proceeds will go to a charitable organization to be identified by the school.
