Forest Watch an organization engaged in conservation of biodiversity and human animal conflict mitigations in the foothills of the Western Ghats has initiated a series of study programs in Bengaluru city to document the urban fauna.
The first program was kicked off in Lalbagh Botanical Gardens on 11 December, 2014. Fifteen volunteers involved in the event have identified 29 species of birds, seven species of butterflies and a few reptiles and small mammals.
The group will carry on with the documentation of urban biota continuously for the next one year preparing a baseline data for recommendation on future conservation action to the concerned authorities. The field survey on next Sunday will be carried out at Kaikondrahalli Lake on Sarjapura Road. The group is planning to document the biodiversity of the Mestripalya Lake at Koramangala fourth block which is being rejuvenated, before and after the formation of the water body on a pilot basis.
