KSRTC- India’s first State Transport Undertaking won the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Bus Excellence Runner –up Award
KSRTC for the first time ever won runner-up position in International Road Transport Union Bus Excellence Award and it is also the first undertaking in India won this award.
The award was presented to S R Umashankar, Managing Director, KSRTC, by Yadhuvir Singh Mallik, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt.of India, Abhay Damle, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways , Govt.of India during the award ceremony held at Constitution Club of India, New Delhi on 27/02/2018. Nagaraj Yadav, Chairman, BMTC was also present during the event.
KSRTC is the first State Road Transport Undertaking in India which has introduced city bus services in tier II and III cities and towns in the State. At present, KSRTC is operating city services in 16 cities with 795 buses. Everyday around 4.4 lakhs passengers are utilising the city services.
The said initiative has won the IRU Bus Excellence Award.
The worldwide International Jury embodying excellence in mobility has evaluated the innovative projects. Around 15 projects including KSRTC project all over the world have been shortlisted for final round of the award –
n Malta Public Transport is the winner of the IRU Bus Excellence Award
n Mwasalat Oman and Karnataka SRTC are tied at the runner-up position
IRU: International Road Transport Union was founded in 1948 in Geneva to help war-torn Europe rebuild devastated trade and commercial links. IRU now shapes mobilitypolicy and practice in over 100 countries.
