Parts of Koramangala 4th Block too affected

Due to heavy rain in Bangalore on August 14th night and Aug 15 morning, the main storm water drain running from Vivek Nagar to Bellandur tank passing through NGV, Ejipura, Koramangala 6th Block, 4th Block, ST Bed, and 1st Block has caused havoc on account of overflowing. The overflown water has flooded half portion of 4th Block with 4 to 5 feet depth of water on the roads.
Almost all the houses including water storage sumps were flooded with 3 to 4 feet of dirty drain water with slush. This dirty water stagnated in houses from 3am to 11am on Aug 15, thereby confining the residents to remain in the houses. The residents had to spend sleepless nights without power, drinking water and food. The situation was so horrible that in some houses, snakes and frogs have entered. In spite of this the Koramangala 4th Block Residents’ Welfare Association complaining about the frequent overflowing of the storm water drain, to the Chief Minister, Bangalore Development Minister, Area MLA and Transport Minister, local Corporator, BBMP Mayor, BBMP Commissioner, Chief Engineer SWD and other engineers, no preventive steps are taken to solve the problem.
The residents have complained about the damages caused to cars, two wheelers, pump sets, furniture, clothes, electrical equipments and items, important documents etc.
The loss caused due to the flooding is to be compensated by the BMMP/Govt. who did not take the preventive steps in this regard, says the RWA.
The photos showing the flooding of water speak for themselves. In this connection, it is suggested by the RWA that the main storm water drain should be desilted on warfooting basis, and steps to be taken to stop throwing of garbage into the drain by the public.
