The leaf litter on the streets of Koramangala were becoming a garbage collection point and most often burnt creating even more pollution.
To solve this problem atleast in a small way and to reduce the workload on BBMP, the residents of Koramangala 1st Block under the banner of Koramangala First Block Residents’ Welfare Association thought of installing leaf composters on streets and making residents involved in composting leaves around their homes. These composters are metallic structure and are cemented in and has a lid, so that people don’t throw garbage into it .
On Saturday Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the composter by putting leaves and some microbes into it in Koramangala 1st Block.
After which to the residents great joy, the Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that from his funds he will give 100 more composters of the same. Former Mayor Manjunath Reddy, Corporator Chandrappa, Environmentalist Sowmya Reddy, JC Balachander, Ramakanth and others were present.
A swachagraha demonstration was also done for the benefit of all residents. A large turnout of residents from all blocks was very heartening.
