Anantha Vana Tree Plantation Programme

Ananth Kumar, Union Minister and Member of Lok Sabha from Bengaluru South, as part of his ‘Green Bengaluru 1:1’ initiative has taken an oath to plant approximately 20 lakh saplings in Bengaluru in the first phase of the project.
Further on the occasion of his birthday Team Ananthkumar has set up a holy grove in the heart of his constituency.
These holy groves/ vanas are known to maintain balance in our natural environment. These holy groves go by different names like ‘Saraswathi Vana’,’Lakshmi Vana” depending on the combination of trees that make up this grove.
In order to re-establish this tradition, Ananth Kumar, on occasion of his 57th birthday has set up such a holy grove by the name of ‘Anantha Vana’.
Sacred tree saplings of our heritage like Rudraksha, Kadamba, Sita Ashoka, Kaashi Bilwa and Karaveera, have been planted at Anantha Vana.
It is believed that these trees help maintain peace and reduce stress in the society. They will not only increase the green cover of Bengaluru and help in controlling climate change, they will also be beneficial for the people living around the grove.
Anantha Vana is a project under the Green Bengaluru 1:1 initiative which is focussed to achieve a sustainable ratio of trees to people in Bangalore. The ideal ratio of trees to people is 7: 1, that is SEVEN trees for EVERY person.
However the ratio today has gone down to 1:7, that is 1 tree for every 7 persons. This is believed to be quite alarming. Team Ananth Kumar has therefore taken various initiatives to try to reach this ratio in Bengaluru. Team Ananthkumar has not only worked in Bengaluru but has planted over 1800 trees with the support of many citizen volunteers of Bengaluru in the village adopted by Ananth Kumar (under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana).
Eminent environmentalist Yellappa Reddy is the guiding force behind this sacred park. It is also supported by the Horticulture department, Lalbagh Botanical Gardens and Adamya Chetana Trust, Bengaluru
