Actress Shruthi decided to celebrate her special day for a noble cause. On the occasion of her birthday, she along with her entire family pledged her eyes at Narayana Nethralaya in Rajajinagar.
She, along with her family visited the Rajkumar Eye Bank which is a part of Narayana Nethralaya at Rajajinagar and pledged her eyes.
She pledged her eyes in presence of Dr K Bhujang Shetty, Chairman and Managing Director of Narayana Nethralaya.
“Narayana Nethralaya has been consistent in putting efforts to create awareness among the citizens of Bangalore to meet ends of demand and supply of eyes. Every single day, the hospital has been putting forth the significant message to people promoting the eye donation process and creating awareness and importance of eye donation or eye pledging and have been striving to give normal life to the less fortunate who have not been able to see the light of the day”, says Dr K Bhujang Shetty.
According to surveys and reports conducted in 2012, it is noted that one among the five blind people of the world is from India. It means at least 1.5 Lakh Indians are suffering from the corneal blindness whereas the rate of eye donation is only 35,000 eyes which cannot fulfill the need of healthy eyes to the common people. There is a large gap between the process of demand and supply of the eyes. We are proud to inform that for the Year 2014, we collected a record 1372 eyes which is much more than 1/3rd of the total eye collection in the state.
“We are glad for the thoughtfulness of Shruthi to have not only come and pledged her eyes in Dr. Rajkumar Eye bank, but also taking the responsibility of pledging the eyes of all her family members.
Narayana Nethralaya have been striving hard in all possible ways to give light to the less fortunate and I personally thank Shruthi and her family members for being such responsible citizens and encouraging others to donate eyes too”, concludes Dr K Bhujang Shetty.
