Rotary completes 2500 free open heart surgery for BPL children

city kempGift of Life across India and beyond Borders program is a Rotary’s initiative to save Children from Heart disease and for the successful completion of 2500 open heart surgeries for children, Rotary’s Gift of Life India Coordinator Dr A C Peter was felicitated jointly by 4 Rotary Clubs in Bangalore, Jeevanbimanagar, Koramangala, Greater Bangalore and Cosmopolitan.
Dr A C Peter, National Head of this program thanked Bangalore Rotarians for joining this movement and said “About 0.23 million children are born with Congenital Heart Diseases (CHD) every year in India. Children from below poverty line (BPL) cannot afford high cost of surgery and have no access to quality medical care. Gift of Life arranged more than 2500 open heart surgeries at Delhi specialist hospitals free of cost to beneficiaries under Gift of Life project ever since its inception.
Children from all parts of India (especially the remotest regions of North East, Jammu & Kashmir) and also from Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Nigeria, Zambia, El Salvador, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Tibetan Govt in exile and Pakistan benefited from this project. They were given free cardiac surgery, medicine, food, accommodation, hospitality, boarding and lodging, conveyance etc. Rotarians regularly visited the children in the hospital and offered motherly care.
Speaking at this occasion Rotary Bangalore JBN President Ronnie Vincent told the gathering that Rotary has spent 7 Crores for this project and planned to spend 1 Crore in next one year to support this project.
Assistant Governor and Gift of Life Karnataka Coordinator Abhishek Ranjan announced that the children from Bengaluru will be sent to Delhi at free of cost to Delhi for Heart Surgeries.
Rotarians Joshy Antony, John Satish and large number of Rotarians and students of Garden City College were present at this function.
