CYCLE DAY is coming to Koramangala ! This event which has been organized in various other localities in Bengaluru over the past 2 years by DULT (Department of Urban Land Transport), Government of Karnataka, in conjunction with a local RWA, is being planned this year in partnership with Koramangala 3rd Block Residents’ Welfare Association on August 7.
The event will feature a Cycle Race and a series of other fun events including street games like Lagori, Snakes & Ladders, Tug of War and Chowka Bhara.
Hundreds of Koramangalites and others are expected to participate.
The event flags off at 6.30 am and will go on until 10.30 am. DULT will organize and provide bicycles free of cost for hire on the day of the event. Those with bicycles of their own are welcome to bring them to the event.
If the response is good, DULT will plan to continue the event on 2 successive months on the first Sunday.
In an attempt to increase awareness on the benefits of cycling for health and the environment, a group of cycling communities and organisations along with the support of the DULT- Directorate of Urban Land Transport, Bangalore Traffic Police and BMRC (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation) started the concept of Cycle Day on October 27th 2013 which was the first ever cycle day in Cubbon Park, Bengaluru.
The objective is to promote cycling as a green mode of transport and get more people on their bicycles in order to reduce pollution and traffic in the city.
