Like every year, this time too an impressive group of men, women and children turned out bright and early on Sunday, 6th March for the Koramangala 3rd Block Annual Walk/Run to raise funds for a charitable cause. But this time it was little different and they all marched in protest shouting “Save Our Playground”. The T-shirts too sported “Save Our Playground”
Earlier the event was held in 4 categories — 5 KM Run, 5 KM Walk, 2.5 KM Run and 2.5 KM Walk which was assisted by the Adugodi Traffic Police and Traffic Wardens led by K S Govindarajan.
Soon after these events, the residents and sportspersons gathered at the BBMP playground in protest against the construction of a Kannada-medium school on the adjoining civic amenities site. They shouted “Save Our Playground” for some time and dispersed. Later prizes were given to the winners.
The residents feared that there is an encroachment upon the playground area and violation of setbacks. A signature campaign by the association has so far received over 800 signatures, which will be sent to the BDA Commissioner. The BDA has issued a notice to the trust after a complaint from the Kora 3b RWA.
It may be recalled that a spot inspection was conducted on 26 February and found setback norms were not complied with. (See more photos on Page 5)
