Following in the footsteps of HSR ‘s highly successful plastic carry bag ban, Koramangala 1st block took the initiative and decided to introduce a plastic ban there too .
Dr Shanti and Smitha from HSR felt 1st block should include all blocks of Koramangala in this movement . So 1st block residents with experts and Senior BBMP officers and representatives from all blocks met and it was decided that on feb 14th the plastic ban will be launched .
After giving all traders a 2 week time to find alternatives, from 27th Feb it will be enforced .
Tentatively names as “Bring your Bag” this movement has received full and complete support from the MLA , the Minister Ramlinga Reddy, and the Corporator M Chandrappa, The Joint Commisioner Hemachandra and all BBMP officials.
On wednesday 10th Feb, the health officers have called for a meeting with all traders to discuss the issue with them and give them alternatives for plastic .
Single use plastic is the main culprit for our garbage problem . It is also a health hazard because it is regularly burnt.
So, banning single use plastic bags and plastic cups is the primary goal .
