‘No power cuts this summer’

powerckThe New Year promise from government and energy minister to withdrawing loadshedding that was in force for some time.
Energy minister DK Shivakumar announced this at a workshop organized by the KPTC for its newly recruited assistant engineers and assistant account officers on Friday. The minister hopes to provide continuous power supply through the summer.
“While the state’s demand is around 9,800 MW, the shortage is pegged at 1,400 MW. To tide over this, the government will start utilizing about 1,000 MW generated by new hydroelectric projects. The government is purchasing 1,300 MW of power, with around 221 MW expected from the Kudankulam nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu from mid-January.
While 700 MW is available from the Bellary Thermal Power Station, which started production on December 25, another 700 MW is expected to come in from the Yeramarus thermal plant from January-end.”
