Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and Infrastructure Minister Roshan Baig held a brainstorming meeting with Urban Experts in order to improve Bengaluru’s infrastructure especially in Whitefield-ITPL area.
Outcomes:
l  Complete all the projects of underpass and flyovers proposed at six crucial junctions – K.R. Puram, Marathahalli, Kundalahalli, Hoody, Hope Farm, and Graphite India.
l  Opening up roads on private campuses of tech parks in Whitefield area for public access was one of the out-of-the-box proposals made to fix the road system in Whitefield
l  Boosting multi-modal public transport system across the city.
l  Proposal to increase the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation fleet to 10,000 buses from its present strength of 6,500.
l  Formalize the private mini bus services to attain more flexibility
l  BDA Masterplan 2035 Ball has been set rolling for the revision of city masterplan. Apart from focusing only on land use, the masterplan should also focus on multi sectors like water, energy etc.
l  Speeding up the land acquisition for peripheral ring road project by sharing some parcel of the developed land to property owners.
The experts also made presentations on measures to be taken to prevent Yelahanka-Devanahalli, set to be the next hub, from turning into another Whitefield.
Bengaluru development minister K J George said the presentations were made as part of the government’s push to develop the city. “The problem with Whitefield is that there are not many parallel roads inside the region and hence the pressure is more on the main roads. There is an urgent need to improve connectivity by developing interior roads. Whereever necessary, if some IT campuses within Whitefield can provide right of way, the interior roads can be developed. Some urban solution companies and citizen groups are working on this and there is positive response to start with. State government will extend support to the exercise if it works out,” he added.
He said the Chief Minister has directed the Urban Development Department to hold consultative meetings on the subject and put up notes to take final decision.
Civic expert and a member of the BBMP restructuring committee V Ravichandar and Rejeet Mathews of World Resources Institute, India made the comprehensive presentation to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, City Development Minister K J George and heads of all civic bodies – BBMP, BDA, BMRCL, BMTC, BMRDA, traffic police, BWSSB and urban development department secretary.
