
It is Samarthanam’s privilege and honour to have received Salma Ansari, wife of Hamid Ansari,Vice President of India. She spent an hour visiting the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled Primary School in HSR Layout and interacted with the students. She was excited on meeting her namesake Salma the student with visual impairment who welcomed her with a bouquet. She was oriented to how blind people play cricket and other equipment that they use.
She then saw the science exhibit displayed by high school students and interacted with them very pleasantly. She asked them a lot of questions and told them some facts they were not aware about the exhibit. She was very excited seeing the hand made products made out of paper, banana bark and other similar materials. She went on to inaugurate the Livelihood Resource Centre by watering a plant. This plant will be transferred to the ground in the school premises. Hearing this Salma said, “I am very happy about the way the centre is inaugurated. A plant symbolises growth and greenery fostering the future.” Then she was oriented to how the visually impaired learn computers upon which again she expressed her happiness and said “Giving light to someone who lives in darkness is a noble service. Training them in technology and enabling them and making them employable is very commendable. Lot of good work is happening. I feel honoured that I am here. I have yet to see something like this.” She addressed the press and said “Coming to Bangalore is always a pleasure and seeing such good work being done makes me very happy.” She then visited the primary school premises, witnessed a dance program by Sunadha team.
She also felicitated Anjini National Awardee, 3 blind cricketers from Karnataka and National Champion of Blind athletics.
Speaking to the audience Ms Salma gave analogy of mother and child and said nurturing a child is very powerful. She congratulated Samarthanam on ensuring so many children are taken care of like a mother. She assured to support the organisation in any manner that she can and ensure the good work continues.
